Working out how to carry the bikes

Sooo

Having decided to cycle the rail trail we then had to work out how to take the bikes as we have never taken the bikes on the van before.

First of all the idea was to put the bike carrier on the draw bar but unfortunately that was going to bring the weight on the draw bar in excess of safe and in fact legal measurements. So after a bit of contemplating on an alternative of how to carry the bikes, Bill came up with the idea of using the wood carrier. Hence he has spent the last few days working out how best to install the bike carrier up on the bracket and to carry out the necessary refinements to make then secure.

The bike carrier installed on top of the opened wood carrier, thereby shifting the weight well behind the draw bar

This is the device that Bill is using to measure the weight on the draw bar

    1. Te He - love your comment Ron.
We have only used that carrier once for carrying firewood and that was when we did the Simpson Desert crossing with Garrath and his mates. I had actually forgotten that it was there and could be an option for carrying anything other than wood. I should do a survey of other Quantum owners to see if they use theirs for wood or in fact anything else like we are now
